Description:
Brain tanned full grain whole bull elk hide. The hide is soft and supple and is from a mature bull elk I killed in 1974. In 1974 it was professionally brain tanned and it has been in my indoor closet since 1974. It has no oder and has retained its original gold color. The total weight of the hide is 5 lbs. Based on its gross size of 30 sq ft, which includes the irregular edge and holes shown in the pictures, the average weight per square foot is 3.2 oz. The thickness is 1.8 to 2 mm ( 1/16 + inches). This hide its strong enough to make chaps, vests, jackets, bags, etc. The useable square feet would depend on how you intend to use the hide. Not in the hide business. Just downsizing.
