Named for Famed MASSACHUSETTS SHOOTING RANGE
Here we present a C&R Stevens Arms Co. “Walnut Hill” Model 417 Under Lever Rifle, manufactured during its eight year production run between 1932 and 1940 in Chicopee Falls, Massachusetts. This .22 LR Rimfire Target Rifle was named, appropriately, for the Woburn, Massachusetts shooting range, “WALNUT HILL”, which was established in 1876.
The “Walnut Hill” was the very last of the Stevens models based on the pre-1900 Model 44 action. It was current in the interwar period, when Stevens was owned by Savage, and was considered a top of the line target rifle, especially for position shooting. This gun was very competitive with the storied Winchester 52 and the various Remington bolt action rifles. The underlever action made it less ideal for use in the prone position.
This one has a J.W. Fecker scope.
The overall condition is very good. Original blue finish and case colors. The action fully functions. Bright bore. Solid stock with signs of use. Clear markings. Clear sight picture with a crisp reticle.
