Description: Approximately 24,000 Marlin Model 38 rifles were made between 1922 and 1929, featuring a 24" octagon barrel, 2/3 magazine tube, blued finish, plain walnut stocks, plain pistol grip with "S" shape similar to the 97 and 39, grooved "corncob" forearm, Marlin logo hard rubber butt plate, open sights, solid top receiver, internal/hammerless action with push button safety that operates top-to-bottom, slide release in the upper front portion of the trigger guard, take down frame, classic Marlin "Bullseye" in the toe line of the butt stock, desirable "Star-Marked" upper tang indicating a rifle of exceptional quality. This model was the first to use the button-type magazine release. The magazine holds 15 short, 12 long or 10 long rifle cartridges. Condition: Barrel retains 98% bright, original blue. Stock shows a few light nicks and scratches. No damage to butt plate. Action funtions properly and smoothly; push button safety also functions correctly. The markings are super sharp and crisp. Bore is a 9.5 of 10, brilliantly bright and shiny with absolutely no pitting or wear. The mag tube shows expected wear at the back half from the pump operation, with the front half retaining 75% original blue turning plum. The receiver retains 50% thinning blue drifting to plum with the obvious carry wear on the bottom by the model number and serial number. This rifle was taken care of very well over the last 95 years and should remain in that condition with proper handling.
