Attractive 19th Century Percussion 12 GA. SXS Damascus Shotgun
Offered here for sale and just acquired is a very attractive 19th Century percussion side by side hammer shotgun which would make an excellent display over anyone’s fireplace mantle. This specimen exhibits very fine engraving on its lockplate barrel and trigger guard and especially two beautiful serpent shaped hammers. The stock has a fine circular patch/cap box inset in it. And the top of the barrel rib is engraved “London Fine Twist”. It has 26” barrels and examining the muzzle end it appears that those are the original barrel lengths. If the shotgun barrels have been shortened it was certainly and excellent job in doing so. Overall the shotgun has seen use but there is still the large majority of the Damascus finish remaining. The wood is sound. There is wear to the checkering at the wrist and it appears in one closeup image of the left side of the wrist that there is the ever so slightest “surface” crack which should not affect its overall appeal. Almost not noticeable. A very attractive 19th century “gentleman’s” antique shotgun. MM9828.
