Description:
A true collector's piece, this Mossberg Model 44 U.S. was a training rifle used by US troops right at the outbreak of WW2. Produced in 1941, these rifles were designed to mimick the weight and site picture of the M1 Garand and M1 Carbine by utilizing a similar peep sight, and weighing in at 8lbs--just one pound shy of the Garand's nine pound weight. The rifle was chambered in .22lr to save on cost, and proved to be an effective trainer for new recruits. This rifle is in excellent condition with virtually unblemished wood, and the metal shows very little signs of aging. The bolt is in excellent condition and sights are still on target, however the rifle is missing the red "set to safe" dot behind the bolt. However, the rifle does still have its original magazine.
