Description: Guns Listing ID: 492103 U.S. PROPERTY Marked COLT 1911 Pistol from 1918 Description: U.S. PROPERTY Marked COLT 1911 Pistol from 1918 WWI-era Inspector Marked 1911 Government Model Here we present a Colt Model of 1911 U.S. Army Pistol, made in 1918 in Hartford, Connecticut. John Moses Browning’s famous pistol was adopted by the U.S. government in 1911 and attained iconic status throughout both World Wars, Korea, Vietnam and beyond. This one was made in the last year of the Great War. It is marked “UNITED STATES PROPERTY” on the left side of the frame. Also on the left side of the frame behind the trigger is the “Eagle/19” government inspector mark. The right side of the slide is marked “MODEL OF 1911 U.S. ARMY”. The serial number dates the gun to 1918. The left side of the slide is marked “PATENTED APR. 20, 1897. SEPT. 9, 1902/DEC.19, 1905. FEB.14, 1911. AUG.19, 1913” with a rampant colt in the middle, then “COLT’S PT. F.A. MFG. CO./HARTFORD, CT. U.S.A.” The rear of the slide bears a small “H”, which is an inspector’s mark. The overall condition is very good. The metal surfaces have a nice, even patina and clear markings. The thumb safety and the barrel bushing bear more finish than the rest. The double diamond grips are in nice shape. The bore is sharp and bright. The action is excellent. Here is a fantastic Colt 1911 from World War I! This firearm is classified as a Curio & Relic.
