32556- CIVIL WAR EXCELLENT SHARPS MODEL 1853 SLANT BREECH “JOHN BROWN” CAVALRY CARBINE. .52 caliber rifled 21 ½” barrel with the original Sharps factory front and rear sights.. 100% original and all matching including the barrel and forend. Serial number 16206 only 5 numbers away from one of the 1st California Volunteer Cavalry carbines listed in the Springfield Research Service, Vol. 2 and close in number to many other of the same unit which were shipped from Springfield Armory in 1862 and saw extensive service during the Civil War in the West as well as against Apache Indians. Perfect Sharps markings and patent date stamps. Perfect screws with some of the original blue. Mellow unpolished brass. Excellent with mousey grey case-hardened frame and barrel with a grey patina and the original polished finish under the forend. Has all the original finish on the stock and forend. Forend with small chip at rear on underside abutting the frame. Excellent bore and tight working order. Desirable early model with long ring bar referred to as the John Brown model and the type used in the raid on Harpers Ferry. Superior example of one of these scarce Sharps carbines. $4950.
