Description:
H&R Scout revolver that apparently was produced as a private run of 100 revolvers for a particular hardware store. It has a 6" round barrel vs. the octagonal barrel of the Hunter and Trapper models. It has an unfluted cylinder unlike the other revolvers mentioned. The walnut saw-handle grips are number matched to the serial number . The only markings on this revolver are the serial # and the "Scout Model" on the top strap. Intended for catalog and hardware store sales. From what I've been able to find out - the SCOUT model was ordered by ? Belknap Hardware of Louisville Kentucky? in the 1920s, in the total of 100 pieces. It apparently was intended to be a "give-away" or "premium" or "kid's gun" - as there is no rear sight, it doesn't seem to be intended for serious shooting endeavors. I've seen only one other example and on that one the front sight was not inverted in the barrel. In any case. Overall condition is good. Barrel has some minor pitting. Wood grips are in very good condition. .22 Short
