Description:
Cased PAIR of ENGRAVED Antique GRICE FLINTLOCK Pistols SILVER Wire INLAID

Matching Brace of BOXLOCKS with ACCESSORIES

Here we present an antique Cased Pair of Engraved and Silver Wire Inlaid Grice Cannon Barrel Boxlock Flintlock Pistols, made circa the late 1700s to early 1800s in London, England. Joseph Grice (1751-1834) was the son of William Grice, a wealthy gunmaker who, according to his will, owned shops in London and Birmingham. We also know from his father’s will that as well as one fifth of the property, Joseph inherited his father’s business.  “I give to my said son Joseph aforesaid all my Tools and Fixtures in my warehouse in Birmingham aforesaid also all my tools and fixtures in my Shops.”

His father’s firm is best known today for supplying the first British rifles for the British army against the American rebels, as he established the “pattern” for the rifles from a German model, then supplied two hundred of the eight hundred rifles supplied in London and Birmingham by four gunmakers in all.

These pistols both feature a .41 caliber bore, typical of a small arm of the period. These self-defense pistols would have been most at home in the coat pocket of anyone in the busy cities of London, Paris and Liege during the late 1700s to early 1800s. These style pistols are light and simple

The overall condition is near fine. Original patina. The actions are excellent. The bores are smooth and in great shape. The stocks are solid with complete delicate wire inlay. London proofed. The 20th Century case is in very good condition and comes with many tools and accessories.

Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.

Barrels are 2-1/2 inches.

Calibers: .41 Flintlock

Overall condition as seen in photos.
