Description:
This beautiful work of art is a 20-gauge replica of the gun Felix Funken, head engraver at Fabrique Nationale (FN) in Herstal, Belgium, engraved for the 1937 Exposition Internationale des Arts et Techniques dans la Vie Moderne held in Paris, France. It is shown on page 61 of the book: “Browning Superposed: John M. Browning’s Last Legacy” by Ned Schwing. While “FFunken” is affixed next to the trigger, he did not usually sign guns this way. It is more likely this gun was actually engraved by Andre Watrain, one of the best factory engravers at FN at the time and one of Funken’s understudies. Nevertheless, this is still a beautiful, rare and interesting work of art, even if Felix Funken did not engrave it and is probably a one of one. The theme of this gun is mythology hunting scene in an art deco style. Unique features of this gun include art deco themed top lever, the stock where the customary checkering was replaced by curved cascading ribs on the stock and fore end, “Superluxe” filing on the trigger and on the “fire blue” trigger guard, and a checkered butt plate with a beautiful oil finish. The receiver has a “coin” finish, which is a bit shinier than a traditional “grey” finish. NRA Grade: Very Good to Excellent.
