Prior to USA entry into the war, Remington was contracted to produce them in .303 British for the British Army. With USA entry into the war, the need for arms for US Army troops outstripped the production capabilities of US armories. The US pattern Lee was modified with a .30-06 barrel and the Eddystone factory produced a ton of arms. This had a couple advantages as the US troops got rifles, and the British troops got rifles chambered for .30-06 which eased the ammo crunch for .303 Brit. This one was manufactured in 1918 and has a bayonet, and cleaning kit. The barrel is manufactured by Remington in 1917. .30-06 Springfield SOLD Curio/Relic: Yes Chambers: 5 rounds Metal Condition: Very good. General wear. Stamps clear. Wood Condition: Good.
