Description:
An Early U.S. Civil War Grouping Of Insignia Identified To "Charles Thompson" Out Of A Family Estate In Fine To Excellent untouched Condition. All original and complete as shown. The grouping consists of "An Army Officers Hardee Hat Insignia, A 4th Infantry Officers Hat Insignia, A Pair Of Officers 1st Lt. Shoulder Bars, An Early Civil War 2 Piece Brass Eagle Officers Buckle & an 1896 G.A.R. Medal".  The Officers buckle is marked on both the buckle and keeper, "XXX////". There is a very old note folded over the ribbon of the medal which reads on the outside, "CHARLES THOMPSON, BROTHER OF MARTHA (THOMPSON)WHITEY/ "SERVED IN CIVIL WAR, SAW LEE SURRENDER AT APPOMATOX". On the inside it is marked, "CHARLES THOMPSON, 1839-1926, SON OF JOHN AND MARTHA (GALE) THOMPSON". All of the officers insignias are in excellent condition. The two piece officers buckle is in fine condition and the G.A.R. Medal is in good condition with a broken ribbon as shown. I Purchased This Grouping From A Family Member Who Was Selling It At A Show. He Did Not Know Too Much About It, Just That It Came From His Great Uncles House. Further Research Should Be Done On This Early & Fine U.S. Civil War Grouping Of Insignia!
