They were produced in a time when Remington and Dupont were joined at the hip. Dupont was looking for plastic market expansion, and Remington requested a plastic strong enough for a firearm. Dupont "doped" Delrin with Nylon and the guns were made. They were touted as maintenance-free, but they could be broken down for cleaning. The Model 76 is the lever action version featuring a very short-throw lever, a scant 30 degrees, and a modern pistol grip. You could say they were the first of the modern lever guns due to their appearance... quite space-agey. This one is a Mohawk Brown and has a grooved receiver for mountina scope.
