Here we have a RARE unmolested Winchester Model 71 Deluxe Carbine, complete with the factory sling swivels and sling, Winchester Model 98A Factory installed bolt peep sight, 98% factory blue on the barrel and mag tube, 96% factory blue on the receiver, 70% blue on lever and hammer, 98% blue on long tang, 90% factory wood finish, and factory checkering in superb original condition. The Model 71 Deluxe Carbine with 20” barrel was produced in very low numbers and very hard to find in FACTORY ORIGINAL UNTOUCHED CONDITION. Basically, a continuation of the Model 1886, with the same brutishly strong action, but with the addition of the pistol grip butt stock and beavertail style forend, the Deluxe or “Special Model” as labeled by Winchester having checkered wood, capped pistol grip, sling swivels and sling. The 20” barreled version (we call a carbine) was manufactured from 1935 until 1947 in .348 Winchester caliber only. There were few Deluxe Carbines made, and this one, serial number 12958 made in 1937, is a great example of a pre-war, long tang 71 Deluxe Carbine as it is unmolested in any way and has perfect mechanics, and the bolt peep. The desirable long tang was discontinued in late 1937 to early 1938, so there are very few M71’s with the long tang, fewer still as a Deluxe Carbine. These pre-war, long tang Deluxe Model 71’s are a great investment Winchester, and great rifles to go after big game. The Winchester .348 is a great mid-range caliber, shooting a 200-grain slug at a velocity of around 2500 fps. for plenty of brush bucking stopping power. The ammunition is still available from several sources on the internet. We have multiple boxes in stock. The trigger is crisp breaking at 4.25 lbs. and the rifling is perfect…clean, sharp, and mirror shiny bore that rates 10 on a scale of 10. It would be hard to find a better Model 71 Deluxe Carbine with this condition, still retaining the factory sling, and a perfect bore. Don’t hesitate as you won’t likely see another for a very long time. Thanks for looking.
