Description: Winchester Model 1892 standard rifle with 24" round barrel, full magazine, plain walnut stocks, plain trigger, open sights, blued and case hardened finish, caliber 38WCF aka 38-40, serial # 29769, made 1894 per the Cody Museum sheet (not pictured but will be provided to the buyer). Rifle is marked "V KINDLER SAGINAW" on top of the barrel between the rear sight and caliber marking. V. Kindler was established in 1867 at 418 Genesee Avenue in East Saginaw as a retailer and wholesaler of firearms and ammunition. According to our sources, Kindler had one of the largest and perhaps THE oldest sporting goods stores in the state of Michigan. Over the years, we've seen a number of Winchester rifles turn up with Kindler markings, similar to other Winchester dealers such as JP Lower in Denver, Colorado and the Browning Brothers of Ogden, Utah. Stocks are sound with no splits or cracks, never sanded or refinished, still tight and even at all metal junctions, exhibiting expected nicks, dings and scratches from 130 years of use. Receiver retains 35% coverage with the typical bottom carry wear, the rest a mix of patina toward the front half and brighter blue at the back half. Upper tang shows evidence of a prior tang sight and thus has 85% bright original blue. Barrel and mag tube are 25% coverage of patina with 50% finer aged blue in the protected areas between each component. Bore is very good, a 7.5 of 10, will spin a bullet just fine. Action is butter-smooth and retains the half cock safety feature. Lever and hammer retain 10% smoky case colors; fore end cap and butt plate have silvered out. Mag tube is tight with no wobble. Grades NRA Antique Very Good and will make a fine addition to your lever action collection as well as being a great rifle to take to the range and enjoy its accuracy as the 38-40 is one of the most accurate calibers Winchester produced.
