One of the best I've had. Here's a beautiful, completely untouched, and very difficult to find Winchester Model 54 in 270 caliber.
S/N 40913A with matching scribed bolt made in 1934.
Only 50,000 ever made in all calibers and configurations of this famed forerunner to the Model 70, and there are very few collectible survivors left. The vast majority have been irreparably compromised with unsightly modifications and abuse.
This rifle remains in remarkably fine condition, showing 97% finishes over most. Even the somewhat fragile charcoal type blueing on the bottom metal remains strong, although with a few scratches, but it does not exhibit the flaked/browned appearance most commonly seen on this particular model.
The bolt body appears to have hardly been cycled and has not been scrubbed!
The rust bluing on the 24" barrel is deep and lustrous with a bit of spotting. The stock finish is absolutely untouched, and has never even been top coated or waxed. There are no cracks anywhere and only superficial handling marks of any kind. It is of the later production "NRA" profile which very closely resembled the Pre War 70 stock which would immediately follow it.
The bore and mechanical functions are perfect and appear as new. The rear receiver bridge remains correctly UNDRILLED.
Correct factory sights for this vintage include proper beaded front and Winchester 22g sporting rear with 4 step elevator.
A very fine example of this masterfully made and historically important Winchester bolt rifle, suitable for most any advanced collection.
