Description:
Approximately 1 of 500 manufactured: the attribution of these guns to J and F Garrett of Greensboro, NC goes back to noted Confederate collector, author and researcher William Albaugh who went into great detail about them in his 1963 book Confederate Handguns. Albaugh felt that these "Blunt & Syms" type pistols were assembled by the Garrett firm, which also produced the Confederate Tarpley Carbines. He believed they were assembled with some US Model 1842 pistol parts that were acquired at the Fayetteville Arsenal as it was being set up for the production of the Fayetteville Rifles using captured Harpers Ferry Rifle Works machinery. While controversy still surrounds the actual makers of these guns they are definitely considered secondary Confederate, southern-made pistols and were almost certainly produced in North Carolina. North Carolina arms collector and researcher Michael Briggs has published a short article that identifies other variants of these brass framed single shot percussion pistols that he feels are the work of the Garrett firm. This example shows a nice patina on the brass with a bright barrel. The grips could be older replacements. Mechanically the hammer does cock back and hold. This is a very rare Confederate sidearm that has a unique mystery about them that would be an excellent addition to any Civil War or Confederate arms collection. Shipping is $25 plus actual insurance cost. Thank you!
