Description:
This is an exceptionally classy and rare Winslow Royal Grade Custom Hand Carved Plainsmaster Stock with very nice wood figure and color. The caliber is Remington 8MM Remington Magnum which was introduced by Remington in 1978, hoping to capitalize on the success of their 7MM Remington Magnum. Its a great Big Game caliber with good ballistic's using the 26" barrel, and is fun and unusual . This beautiful custom rifle is topped with an excellent vintage Weatherby Supreme 2X7 Scope ,(box included) and is housed in fancy Weatherby Style Engraved Redfield Bases and Rings. Comes with Gold sling swivels, and a full box of Mashburn Custom 196 Grain 8MM Remingtoin Magnum Ammo. I have never shot this particular Winslow. I believe I have a copy of the Winslow Catalog I can include with this one of a kind rifle.
While this special rifle has been hunted with , it remains in very good over all condition. There are few scattered small use marks, and a surface scratch on the top left rear side of the action about an inch long. It is visable in the picture of that area. Also on the left side cheek piece area there is a impact dent about the size of a pencil eraser.Looks like possibly another bolt hit it in a safe? There are a few small dings along the lower portion of the cheek piece that also show in the pictures of that area. Overall these dings distract very little from the spectacular workmanship and beauty of this rifle.
Winslow Arms Company was started in 1963 by John Winslow, he brought in former renowned Weatherby Stock Maker Nil's Hultgren and they designed their " Aristocrat of Fine Sporting Rifles" custom stocks. Nil's was famous for hand carved stocks, especially basket weave and a master at inlays. The other Winslow stock specialist was Art Kroll, who also did exceptional stock work.
The eurgonomics of the Winslow Plainsmaster Stock is great! They come up nicely and handle recoil very well. I've hunted with them and they shoot and handle as well as they look. They have great eye appeal.
