Description:
This is a somewhat scarce example of the rolling block carbines purchased by the New York state militia.  It is one of 587 carbines equipped with the Decker Patent rear sight and issued to Artillery and Signal Corps units. Like this example, most are missing the spring steel sight and elevator.  I can't even find photos of what it is supposed to look like.  The good news is that holes for original carbine sight are present, so a reproduction replacement is available. Or you could try your hand at fabricating a workable part for the Decker. The carbine is in overall good plus antique condition, with traces of case colors on receiver and some freckling on the barrel. Bore is very good with scattered light pitting.  Stocks have numerous minor bumps and bruises typical on a 150 yesr old rifle. No cracks. Good cartouche present on left wrist. Action tight and crisp. These have the safety feature where hammer drops to half cock when block is closed. $850 + Shipping.
