Description:
Mid-1800s Antique D. BOYER Full Stock PERCUSSION TARGET Rifle SET TRIGGER

Maker of the “PENNSYLVANIA-KENTUCKY” Long Rifle

Here we present an antique D. Boyer Full Stock Percussion Target Rifle, manufactured circa the 1840s in Reading, Pennsylvania. David Boyer (1806-1883) was a gunsmith known to be the maker of the “Pennsylvania-Kentucky” long rifle. Some historians believe that the guns stamped “D. Boyer” were made by another D. Boyer in Orwigsburg, PA. Though, it is more likely that they are the same person. David Boyer’s guns were known to be of superior craftsmanship. It is believed that the “best rifle” award of the Schuylkill County Agricultural Society in 1860 was for a gun made by David Boyer.

This rifle is equipped with a stout octagonal barrel in .50 caliber, large enough to take medium to large sized game or to defend the homestead against unwanted aggression. Rifle manufacture in the mid-to-late 19th Century was rapidly changing over from thousands of craftsmen all over the United States and on the Frontier making and selling their wares, to the large factories with standardized assembly lines and modern manufacturing techniques.

The overall condition is very good. Original finish and patina. The action is excellent. The bore is bright with sharp rifling. There is a short, stable split ahead of the rear lock escutcheon. Otherwise solid throughout.

Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.

Barrel is 36-1/2 inches.

Caliber: .50 Percussion

Overall condition as seen in photos.
