This M1908 was made in 1915. The left side grip has a small crack but is in one piece. The Colt Model 1908 Vest Pocket Hammerless, chambered in .25 ACP, is a compact, semi-automatic pistol designed by the legendary John Moses Browning. Manufactured by Colt‚‚s Manufacturing Company from 1908 to 1948, this diminutive firearm was marketed as a highly concealable option, perfect for discreet carry in a vest pocket. The pistol measures just 4.5 inches in length with a 2-inch barrel and weighs a mere 13 ounces. It features a six-round detachable magazine and is equipped with fixed iron sights, which, although small, were adequate for the close-range engagements it was intended for.
The Model 1908 Vest Pocket is a single-action, striker-fired pistol, notable for its hammerless design. It incorporates several safety features, including a slide-locking safety catch, a grip safety, and, from 1916 onwards, a magazine safety disconnector known as the \"Tansley Device,\" which prevents the gun from firing when the magazine is removed. The pistol was available in various finishes, including the highly polished Colt Carbona Blue, nickel plating, and even gold and silver plating for custom orders. Standard grips were made from black hard rubber or finely checked walnut, often adorned with the iconic \"rampant Colt\" medallion.
