Very scarce French Antique Buffalo Lebel St Étienne Cade & School Training Carbine, in its original factory blue & color case finish engraved single shot elegant carbine manufactured by M.A.S. Manufacture d'Armes de St Étienne, it qualifies as an Antique pre-Dec 31. 1898, doesn't required a FFL for transfer, chambered for .22 Winchester Center Fire (.22 WCF 5.8x35mm R) introduced in 1885 which later led to development of .22 Hornet cartridge. The Buffalo Lebel bears a resemblance to the famous French Lebel model 1886-93. Its very unique Buffalo bolt action system. 26" round barrel with a good smooth shinny bore with sharp rifling. The metal surface retains a good 90-95% of its original Factory blue finish and of its case-hardened color. Comes with its original clineang rod. Finely checkered straight stock of French walnut burl. Serial numbers are matching. Markings are sharp & well defined: "Acier" on the left side of the barrel, on the right side "Cal.22 W.C.F -Z", on the top of the bolt "Carabine Buffalo Lebel", "Manufacture Française d'Armes et de Cycles de St Ètienne " & the serial number: "62647". Available for sale for $100 a rare set of new & unused C-H Tool & Die I haven't shot his collectible carbine, the unusual Buffalo bolt action is firm and functions very well. After the the defeat of the Franco Prussian War of 1870 the loss of the two large eastern provinces Alsace & Lorraine which was regained by the French Republic at the end WWI in 1918. In the 1870s-1890s France was eager to avange it self then created all over France military schools for young men futur recruits for the futur WWI in 1914.
