Description:

This pistol stands as a significant piece of American history. The U.S. purchased Model 1842 percussion pistols from several sources. I.N. Johnson was awarded a contract, calling for the delivery of 10,000 pistols between 1853-1855. The single-shot pistol, with a brass front sight, mounted on an 8.5 inch barrel having an attached, rotating ramrod, is chambered in .54 caliber (54/100ths of an inch), firing a round lead ball. The sideplate is marked US/I.N. Johnson, with the left side marked U.S./S.K./P, the latter two strikes reflecting inspector markings. Brass fittings including grip fitted to an unmarked single piece walnut stock.

Condition:

Good, with most of the iron/steel fittings having oxidized to a uniform brown, the brass fittings a toned mustard, the walnut stock retaining most of its original finish. Crisp action with halfcock and fullcock. A classic US military percussion pistol from the mid 19th century!
