The Savage Model 99 is a hammerless lever action rifle known for its innovative rotary magazine and ability to handle more aerodynamic spitzer bullets, offering a unique hunting experience. The Model 99 is a hammerless, lever-action rifle with a strong, rear-locking breechblock. It features a rotary magazine (later a detachable magazine) under the bolt, allowing for the use of spitzer bullets, which were not possible with the tubular magazines of the time. A window on the left side of the receiver indicated how many rounds were left in the rotary magazine. It was designed to handle somewhat higher pressures than contemporary lever guns. .303 Savage
