Description:
I am offering for sale a 1950 Spanish Model FR 8 Bolt Action Repeating Rifle chambered for 7.62 NATO and with CETME Bayonet.

The Fusil Reformado (Reconfigured Rifle) FR 7 and FR 8 service rifles were built during the late 1940s of the Cold War for Spanish troops as Spain was transitioning from bolt action Mausers to automatic battle rifles. The Spanish military was implementing the CETME (Centro de Estudios Técnicos de Materiales Especiales) select-fire military assault rifle at that time but did not have sufficient inventory to equip and train its troops. (The CETME battle rifle went into production in 1957 and remained Spain's main infantry rifle - in various forms - until 1999.)

Existing arsenal stocks of Mauser-action bolt rifles were modified into configurations approximating the CETME rifle: the FR 7 was a modification of the Mauser Model 1893 and Model 16 short rifle - both "small ring" Mausers; the FR 8 was developed from the Model 1943 short rifle based on the "large ring" Model 1898 Mauser action.  For the FR 8 the old M43 8mm barrel was removed and a new 18.5-inch CETME barrel chambered for 7.62 x 51 mm NATO was installed, complete with flash suppressor and front sight post. The magazine follower was modified, stocks were cut down and a new aperture rear sight was welded to the old M43 receiver. All metal parts were Parkerized.  Both rifles were chambered to fire the 7.62 NATO round and came with 5-round internal magazines. The rifle was fitted with a muzzle device on which a NATO-standard 22mm rifle grenade could be affixed.  The muzzle was also designed with a CETME-type flash suppressor (bird cage flash hider) that could be used as a wire cutter.  The rear sight has a rotating disc with three diopter apertures: 200 m, 300 m, 400 m and an open "V" notch for 100 meters. The front sight is adjustable for elevation with a special tool. The FR 8 was used into the 1980s by the Spanish Guardia Civil police units, mounted forces and military reserves.

This rifle was produced in 1950 at Fabrica De Armas La Coruña, Spain, as evidenced by the stamp and crest on the receiver.   It comes with a Model 1969 bayonet (serial E167039C), scabbard and frog, and webbed cotton sling with front swivel eyelet, swivel on bottom of buttstock and rear sling bar on left buttstock.  The faux gas tube is removable for storage of a cleaning kit.  The rifle is all original and complete and in very good collector condition.  Bore is shiny with strong rifling.  Standard Parkerized military metal dark finish is nearly 100% intact.  Bolt has blued finish.  Oil finish stock and hand guard in excellent condition with no scratches or compression dents.  Matching serial number on receiver and bolt handle.  I have not shot the rifle but the action chambers and extracts/ejects a round.  Discrete import stamp on barrel.
