Description:
Winchester Model 1894 serial number 70594, caliber 30 WCF, 26" round barrel (Cody records indicate the original barrel was part octagon), 1/2 magazine, take down, plain pistol grip with Winchester logo grip cap, plain walnut stocks, crescent butt with steel butt plate, plain trigger open sights, made 1896 per Madis.

CONDITION: Rifle retains 85% factory refinish done when the barrel was replaced in 1941 as noted by the "41" date code on the underside just ahead of the breech, visible after the forearm is removed. Receiver and barrel are now properly factory-proofed (would not have been when rifle was originally produced). Removal of the butt plate reveals "94" "T" and an X-ed out "8665" assembly number, which is also X-ed out on the left side of the lower tang. The new assembly number "844" appears in the upper channel of the butt stock, on the left side of the lower tang, and on the front side of the takedown flange when the forearm is removed. Takedown is tight with no wobble. Bore is mint. Front sight is a Sheard and the rear sight is the typical semi-buckhorn with thumbtab elevator commonly used in the late 1930s and most of the 1940s. The metal surfaces do have surface pinprick staining that should clean off, nothing is deep. Stocks show typical nicks, dings and scratches, with the butt stock have a small piece repaired at the upper left wrist by the tang. A very good special order, factory reworked rifle that will be fun to shoot, great to hunt with, and increase in value over time as a collector's item.
