Interesting G.I. Bringback Walther P38 9MM Auto Pistol
Offered here for sale is a newly acquired very interesting Walther P38 9MM auto pistol which was brought back from WWII by a G.I. That's a fascinating and historically rich piece—definitely the kind of artifact that carries both military and personal significance. This specimen is marked with the manufacturer Code & Date: "ac 41" - Walther, manufactured in 1941. Serial Number: 6231g —it is all matching. Well-used, with heavy wear and a grey patina from loss of original bluing. This is consistent with a pistol that likely saw front-line use.
It is stamped with Nazi "Eagle over 359" (WaA359) inspector marks, indicating official Wehrmacht acceptance and inspection at the Walther factory. Brought home by a U.S. soldier in WWII. No postwar import marks . On the grips the G.I. had etched inscriptions "March 19-45" — Likely the date of capture or significant personal event for the GI. Also etched "Siegfried Line 45NW" — This almost certainly refers to the Siegfried Line (Westwall), Germany's defensive line opposite the French Maginot Line. “45NW” may be a coordinate or code for a specific area or sector. Possibly 45th Infantry Division Northwest, or just a soldier's way of referencing his unit or location during the fighting.
These etchings make the pistol very personal, essentially turning it into a battlefield trophy and memento. When found it lacked a magazine. A correct replacement was added. Not ideal for purists, but doesn't greatly diminish the value, especially if the mag is WW2-era appropriate. For starter collector or shooting enthusiast a very interesting piece of history with the potential for further research. L234. Thanks for your bid.
