Classic Minty S&W Chief’s Special .38 Revolver 2” BBL W/Box
Offered here for sale is a newly acquired classic Smith & Wesson classic revolvers-the Model 36 Chief’s Special .38 revolver. This Smith & Wesson Model 36 Chief’s Special revolver, serial number 125239, was manufactured in early 1971. This estimation is based on the "floating J" serial number series, which began around 1J1 in mid-1970 and continued through 999J99 until late 1973. Given that your serial number is 125239, it's probable that it shipped in early 1971.
Introduced in 1950, the Model 36 was designed as a compact, concealable revolver chambered for the .38 Special cartridge. It was built on Smith & Wesson's J-frame and was initially known as the "Chief's Special" before being designated as the Model 36 in 1957 .?
This specimen appears to be in exceptional condition, retaining virtually all of its original blued finish and case colors, with a mint bore and showing no signs of having been fired. The perfect factory medallion checkered grips and inclusion of the original box with papers further enhance its value and desirability among collectors. Considering its 99.9% condition and the rarity of such well-preserved examples, this should be a welcome addition to any Smith & Wesson collection.
