Description:
Scarce Factory Original Remington Rand or Ithaca WWII Miltary.45 Auto Magazine
Offered here for sale is a very fine original Colt factory FULL SIZED 1911 magazine with blued Finish for then military 1911 Colt or Ithaca 1911 pistol. The magazine -a 1911-style .45 ACP magazine with a blued finish, marked with a letter "F" within a circle, and serial number 32179 on the base—appears to be a World War II-era U.S. military contract magazine.? The "F" within a circle marking is commonly associated with Frank J. Atwood, a U.S. Army lieutenant colonel who served as an inspector for Remington Rand and Ithaca during WWII. His initials, "FJA," were typically stamped on the frame of M1911A1 pistols, but his "F" marking was also used on magazines produced under his inspection. This marking indicates that the magazine was part of a military contract and met the required specifications during production. ?
The serial number "32179" on the base of the magazine suggests that it was produced early in the contract, likely in the first quarter of 1943. This aligns with the timeframe when Remington Rand and Ithaca were manufacturing M1911A1 pistols and associated magazines. The numbering system for magazines during this period was not standardized, but the presence of a serial number indicates a military contract item.?
The blued finish on the magazine is consistent with WWII-era production. During this period, most magazines were finished entirely in blue, known as "one-tone" magazines. This was a departure from earlier "two-tone" magazines, where only the lower half was blued. The transition to full bluing occurred around serial number 719,753, which corresponds to the production timeline of this magazine. This specimen is in very good used condition with just a few pathces of surface patina most of which we will clean off before shipping.
A fine original used magazine likely produced by Remington Rand or Ithaca, and inspected by Frank J. Atwood. The "F" within a circle marking and serial number 32179 confirm its authenticity and historical significance. Such magazines are collectible items for enthusiasts of military firearms and history.
