Description:
This bayonet is quite impressive, about 25 inches long with a 20 ? inch "Yataghan" style saber blade, with a wide fuller on each side. The ricasso of the blade is strongly marked with "Crown over W" and the reverse marked "Crown over R inside C". The cast brass hilt has a strong Eagle feather grip with signs of very light use. The bayonet release still functions properly but is a little stiff. The bright unsharpened blade is excellent with no nicks, nice tip and the lightest of shadowing on the surface. The bright leather scabbard is solid with all stitching still tight. The brass chape and locket are still attached tightly. There is light crazing and cracking, nice patina on brass with light verdigris. There are no other marking on the blade, handle or scabbard. These are very rare and not much in the way of detailed information is available but I believe they are a matched set. The M1873/76 is an extremely scarce, and highly collectible Winchester bayonet.
