Description: Springfield 1873 Trapdoor .45-70 GOVT. The Springfield Model 1873 was the first standard-issue breech-loading rifle adopted by the United States Army. The rifle, in both full-length and carbine versions, was widely used in subsequent battles against Native Americans. The Model 1873 was the fifth variation of the Allin trapdoor design, and was named for its hinged breechblock, which opened like a trapdoor. This example appears to be all original. The wood stock has a few cracks and is rough in places but it's original and the stock was a known weakness and was prone to breaking on the narrow section, so to have the original stock still intact, is great for the collector wanting an example for their collection. Plenty of stampings and markings on the stock also which are still visible. .45-70 Government SOLD Metal Condition: good Wood Condition: fair Barrels: 32" barrel Stock Dimensions: 13.75 Fore End: smooth wood Butt Pad: metal Weight: 9 pounds Sights: factory open sights Item Location: La Vista, NE |
