Description:
******* SALE PENDING JOE M. *******

Marlin Model 1881, serial number 14788, made in 1885, caliber 32-40, 28" octagon barrel with full magazine, walnut stocks, plain trigger, blued and case-hardened finish, scarce small frame (which reduced the overall weight of the rifle by 2 to 3 pounds compared to the original heavy frame version), standard open sights. Only 1,785 were made in this caliber, making it the rarest caliber of the 16,378 Models 1881 manufactured.

CONDITION: Receiver retains 85% bright original blue on the left side and 35% bright original blue on the right side with the remainder drifted to plum. Lever and hammer retain smoky traces of case hardening, with the fore end cap and butt plate turned the typical nickel-silver after the case colors fade. The action is smooth and functions properly. The upper tang is correctly factory drilled and tapped for a peep sight with the factory plug screws intact. Rifle retains the original Rocky Mountain front sight and long base rear sight with fish hook elevator. The caliber, serial number, and patent markings all remain clear. The mag tube has some light pitting on the underside running the entire length, with the protected portions in good shape and drifted to plum. The barrel retains 70% blue mixed with plum, and the bore is very good, certainly will shoot fine if desired. The stocks show typical nicks and dings. The butt stock has a short, tight split back by the butt plate in the middle, and the varnish is starting to crackle and craze. The fore arm has some nice extra grain flow to it. Grades NRA Antique Very Good and is a highly collectible version that is sure to increase in value over time.

TERMS: No international sales and no sales to Alaska or Hawaii. Antique so it can ship directly to you, assuming your local laws allow it, so driver's license to show proof of 21 or older is required. Note New York State buyers must have the item shipped to an FFL holder. Payment by bank check, USPS money orders, personal check, or GunTab. 3-day non-firing inspection. Buyer pays return shipping.
