The bore is in great shape, with rebluing on multiple parts of the firearm including: barrel bands, sideplate, trigger guard, ramrod, and others. The ramrod is also not original, along with the bayonet. The sights appear not to be original to the firearm as well. In this authors opinion the cartouche looks questionable at best. The lines are very jagged for the signature and the scratch on the proof mark leads me to question the authenticity of this rifle. If it is a facsimile it is very well done and even if it is, this should still be treated as if it is a true trapdoor and should only be fired with True Black powder 45-70 Govt or with Substitute BP. The bayonet has also been reblued. .45-70 Government SOLD Antique: Yes Barrels: 29 inches Item Location: Lacey, WA |
