Description: This is a scarce 1902 dated West Point Cadet bayonet Model of 1892 for the Krag Rifles used by them during training in the correct painted steel scabbard with leather backed belt attachment. These Krag bayonets were re-purposed for use at West Point being chromed by Government arsenals and having replacement grips with screw and nut fasteners beginning in 1939. This example is in fine condition measuring 16 ¼ inches overall with a 11 ½ inch fullered blade marked "US" on the ricasso and 1902 on the reverse. The blade, crossguard and pommel all have the bright chrome plating with slight scabbard insertion wear and tiny nicks along the blade edge. The wood grips rate about excellent with a few tiny contusions. The painted steel scabbard remains about excellent with light surface marks and scratches and the leather remains supple. An excellent example of the later West Point Cadet bayonet. SOLD |
