Description:
EARLY 1895 RIFLE CHAMBERED IN .35 WCF CALIBER, #43XXX, MADE THE FIRST YEAR THIS CHAMBERING WAS OFFERED IN 1903. One of the more scarce chamberings in the 1895, the .35 Win. was based on the .30-40 Krag case necked up (or the .405 Win. case necked down). It was, and is, a powerful cartridge. This one shows fine aged blue on the correct 24" barrel with some light age/brown mixing. The receiver is mostly gray/brown with exc. blue on the bolt and good aged blue on the magazine sides. Exc.. markings, buckhorn rear sight with elevator bar intact with Lyman blade/bead in the correct integral base. The stock and forend are fine with one small chip at the upper corner of the receiver/tang juncture on the left side. The forend has the correct classic ebony inlay in the schnable tip. Action is tight with strong safety half-cock. The bore is a little dark with strong rifling all the way through. A powerful 122 year old Winchester made the first year of the .35 WCF.
