This modification involved cutting a small notch into the receiver ring to allow the use of a stripper clip adapter. The Eddystone Model 1917 was essentially a version of Britain’s Enfield Pattern 1914 rifle, which was being produced during the Great War by both Remington, Eddystone (a subsidiary of Remington), and Winchester. This was all happening before the United States officially entered the war in April 1917. The Eddystone Arsenal itself was a facility operated by Baldwin Locomotive Works, located in Eddystone, Pennsylvania. During the war, it was converted to produce military equipment for the Allies, as the demand from combatants outpaced the capacity of Baldwin’s main factory in Philadelphia. To meet this demand, the Eddystone plant was built specifically for wartime manufacturing. After the war ended, the facility transitioned back to locomotive production under Baldwin’s Eddystone Plant. The overall condition is good. Strong action. The bore is bright with sharp rifling. This example sports a solid stock with minimal handling evidence. Markings are legible. “CGI SWAN” import marked. The numbers mixed. Norwegian modified notch cut in the receiver ring for use with stripper clip adapter (not included). This piece has been refinished. Absent front sling swivel. Own the original!
