This fighting knife was produced from a 1913 Patton Cavalry Saber at the San Antonio Iron Works, San Antonio TX. The original sword was produced by "L.F. & C." (Landers Fray & Clark) with approximately 93,000 produced by them and 35,000 by Springfield Armory. The 8 1/16" blade is in excellent condition with what appears an original SAIW ground edge and tip. It is marked on the ricasso "L.F. & C." 1918 and on the reverse "US" over N0. 13 with Eagle Head. The guard and tang are excellent with only the lightest of surface oxidation. The sheath is also correct and marked with the soldiers name and number on the back. It remains in excellent condition with fine patina and strong tooling. This information can be referenced on page 184 of Bill & Debi Wright's book, "Theater Made Military Knives of WWII" and page 185 of M. H. Cole's book "U.S. Military Knives Book III". This is a great opportunity to own a are WWII fighting knife. SOLD |
