Payment Types Accepted: checks, cashiers/bank check, money order Description: UNUSUAL AND EXTREMELY RARE MODEL 1891 SINGLE SHOT TARGET PISTOL IN .32 S&W CALIBER WITH S&W FACTORY LETTER. This pistol is in excellent+ condition inside and out. The serial number is 18XXX and it has a 10" barrel, blue finish. What is unusual is that the barrel was never serial numbered and the barrel latch only has the number "O" stamped inside. Often the "O" stamping indicates a "Club Gun" that was given away by S&W. The S&W letter states that this pistol: ...was shipped from our factory on April 6, 1900, and delivered to Von Lengerke & Antoine Co., Chicago, IL. This was a large shipment and the invoice does not list the details of what were shipped. If this was shipped as an original .32 Smith & Wesson the barrel and the latch should be numbered to match the pistol. The "O" on the latch could indicate that this was changed after it was shipped to provide an extra barrel. Considering the overall matching condition of the barrel and the frame, my opinion is that it was supplied with an extra barrel. The records show this was a large order and that the individual specs of each pistol were not noted. It is also possible that the order contained extra barrels. Regardless, this one is a beautiful example with excellent bright blue showing almost no wear, aside from a few very light scratches on the frame and a little thinning to the front strap, good case colors on the hammer and good color on the upper portions of the trigger guard sides. Grips are excellent, tight lock up, correct adjustable target sights, minty bright bore. all correct markings including the importnat "MODEL OF '91" on the barrel top and ".32 S&W CTG" on the left side. It is thought that only about 229 of these were made in .32 S&W caliber (all Model 1891 single shot pistols and revolver frames were made Pre-1899 making them antiques).
