The Lee-Enfield No. 4 Mk I is a legendary bolt-action service rifle, chambered in .303 British, and widely regarded as one of the fastest and most battle-proven bolt-action rifles of the 20th century. This model was the standard-issue rifle of British and Commonwealth forces during World War II, and it remains a favorite among military surplus collectors and historical firearms enthusiasts.
The No. 4 Mk I was introduced in the early 1940s as an improvement over the earlier SMLE (Short Magazine Lee-Enfield) Mk III*, featuring a heavier barrel, simplified production methods, and a stronger rear-mounted aperture sight. Its 10-round capacity and fast, smooth bolt action gave Allied troops a significant rate-of-fire advantage.
Today, it remains a highly collectible and shootable piece of history, appreciated for its craftsmanship, accuracy, and role in defining mid-20th century military arms.
