Years ago, when these guns were a dime a dozen, folks would adapt them to sporter use by installing receiver sights and/or drilling and tapping them for scope bases. That is exactly what happened to this excellent original high number Springfield 1903. It now sports an original Redfield receiver sight as shown. We're saddened by it today, but back then it was the "cat's meow" and we would see many of these inexpensive surplus guns in the deer woods as a poor man's deer gun. I guess that's why the untouched guns are worth so much.....
