Description: Possible Wild West Outlaw Owned Model 1873 Colt Frontier Six-Shooter Single Action Army Revolver, Nickel Plated with Ivory Grips, Factory Letter, & Holster, .44-40 WCF, mfg. 1880. This is a super cool old cowboy gunfighter Colt that may have been carried by an outlaw. A distinct five-dot symbol arranged in the form of a quincunx is carved on the left side of the grip which to this day is most commonly associated as representing time served in prison. The included factory letter confirms the gun's original configuration as .44-40 caliber, barrel length not listed (standard 7 ½"), blue finish, stocks not listed, sold to E.C. Meacham Arms Company, St. Louis, Missouri, shipped to Hartley & Graham, New York, New York, on October 7th, 1880. Both E.C. Meacham Arms Co. and Hartley & Graham were premier firearms retailers who sold countless guns to dealers and individuals across the nation through their popular catalogs. It's intriguing that these two major firearms retailers were apparently doing business amongst themselves. The gun has had it's barrel shortened in period to a more quick draw friendly length of 4 ¾" with a small blade front sight fitted. Overall the gun retains about 85% old nickel finish with flaking on the cylinder and left side of frame and some light surface oxidation forming. Original retailer fitted ivory grips have a fantastic browned yellow color with heavy wear and natural grain checking. They fit excellent at the frame and butt with undersized shrinkage and wear along the gripstraps. Clear three-line patent dates and “44 CF” marked triggerguard with partial “44” marking visible under the barrel. Serial number “58173” clearly stamped on the frame and faintly visible on the backstrap with only “5xxxx” legible on the triggerguard. Barrel address and Colt Frontier Six Shooter logo buffed away when refinished and no longer visible. Original hammer, trigger, loading gate, screws, cylinder pin, and ejector rod. There is an old museum or collection inventory number electric pen engraved on the bottom of the ejector housing, left sides of the frame and triggerguard, and on the bottom of the grips. Period owner's initials “Hub?” scratched on bottom of butt. The first safety position clicks too soon and likewise the loading position is off but otherwise the action is very crisp and smooth and functions nicely with four clicks. Cylinder locks up on time with moderate play. Bore shows very strong rifling overall worn just at the muzzle tip with moderate/heavy blackpowder frosting and superfine pinprick surface pitting throughout. A period studded basket weave holster is included which fits like a glove. This Colt just has the classic look and feel of a real Wild West gunslinger's pistol! *NOTE* Due to ivory restrictions this pistol will not be sold or shipped to residents of California, Hawaii, Illinois, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, or Washington.
