Description:
The third generation Smith & Wesson automatic pistols were brought to market in the late 1980s as many law enforcement agencies were transitioning away from revolvers to automatics. S&W had a large lineup available to choose from, with caliber offerings in 9mm Luger/Parabellum, .45 Auto/ACP, .40 S&W, and 10mm Auto, various action types, alloy- and steel-frame options, and blued, stainless, or two-tone color configurations. These pistols proved to be a great transition piece as the metal frames were similar in weight to revolvers, many grips featured arched backstraps, and even the sights on the pistols were reminiscent of revolver sights. The 3rd Gen S&Ws were very reliable and durable pistols, truly ideal for duty use—and their adoptions further proved this: while the S&Ws were used by countless law enforcement agencies in the US, even some international and federal agencies fielded the pistols including the Japanese Coast Guard, Canadian Mounted Police, and the Puerto Rican police—who specifically used a Model 5906 such as this! The Model 5906 is an all-stainless steel pistol chambered in 9mm Luger/Parabellum. The 5906 is a double/single-action pistol with a very smooth double action trigger pull—the result of decades of S&W revolver design. The pistol holds 15 rounds in its flush magazine and has white 3-dot sights with an adjustable rear sight and dovetailed front sight. The pistol does have a manual safety with decocker located on the slide, much like the Beretta 90-series pistols. This pistol is most likely a 1989-manufactured gun and has been used quite a bit and shows reasonable amounts of wear. However, the pistol operates perfectly and has a very smooth, broken-in action. The frame and slide are in great condition and the barrel is clean with good rifling. The pistol also is sold with two OEM 15-round magazines and a Bianchi paddle holster with thumb break retention. 9mm Luger
