Colt Model 1908 History:
The Colt 1908 Pocket Hammerless was introduced in 1908 as a larger-caliber evolution of the successful Colt 1903 Pocket Hammerless. Designed by John Browning, the Model 1908 was chambered in .380 ACP, offering more stopping power in a compact, easily concealable frame.
Despite its name, the pistol is not truly \"hammerless\"—the hammer is simply enclosed within the slide. This design allowed for a snag-free draw from a pocket or holster, making it an extremely popular choice for law enforcement, military officers, and civilians alike.
The Model 1908 was widely used through both World Wars and even into the 1950s. It was a favorite among U.S. generals, intelligence agents, and high-ranking military personnel. Production ran from 1908 to 1945, with approximately 138,000 units manufactured.
