Nice Mauser 98 in 7x57. Has a 24" barrel with caliber marking stamped into the left side by the reciever ring. It also shows "F.W.L.R. III" but who this is for is an unknown. Barrel band front sight and a lyman island rear sight. Top of the forward receiver ring is stippled . The receiver aslo features the base of a Lyman 48 peep sight which is missing its slide.The left side of the receiver has a Griffin and Howe scope mount, which was properly mounted with blind screws. The upper half of the mount has 1" rings for a modern scope. The bolt has two checkered panets and has been scalloped for scope clearance. The mauser wing safety was replaced with a mod 70 style wing safety as was made by Dakota Arms. The bottom metal appears to be by Mauser. Bore is very strong but not as new. The scope is a Zeiss Diavari-C 1.5-4.5 power. The stock has nice color and figure. The checkering is clean and on the forearm it wraps all the way around. It has an ebony tip too. The sling studs are for removable sling swivels. The metal buttplate looks to be from Winchester. Length of pull is 13 1/2". Rifle weighs 8lbs and 3 oz without the scope.
