Colt AR15 A3 Tactical Carbine – 5.56 NATO – Police Trade-In – LIFETIME GUARANTEE – SureFire M500 Weapon Light
We‚ve sold a variety of Law Enforcement trade-ins over the last few years. They‚re typically great firearms that have been well maintained. This rifle is a Colt AR-15 A3 Tactical Carbine. These rifles came from Colt Defense, a division of Colt that deals with law enforcement, the military and some security organizations. Now that it‚s come back from the original agency, it‚s available for retail sale. This rifle also comes with a Lifetime Guarantee. More details on that are below.
Serial number on this rifle is LBD014635. We don’t know which law enforcement agency originally had the rifle.
The rifle is chambered for 5.56 NATO, has a 16 inch heavy barrel, a 1:9 twist and a birdcage flash hider. A bayonet lug is on the under side of the barrel. The receiver is stamped for .223 Rem but the barrel is marked for 5.56 NATO as mentioned.
The stock is a collapsible multi-position stock. The rifle has a shell deflector, dust cover and forward assist. Front sight post is a standard A2 post. A picatinny rail is on top of the receiver. There is no rear sight but plenty of room to mount a flip up sight, optic or both.
The bore is very clean, the barrel is very bright and the rifling appears to be good.
The most notable feature on this rifle is the SureFire M500 Weapon Light system that the agency mounted on the rifle. While the M500 is vintage technology for sure, they’re a very neat system and still very popular. We see the M500 selling online between $300 - $500. Essentially, this system replaces the original forend on the rifle and offers lighting solutions without having exposed wires.
A larger flashlight sits on the right side of the system while a low-output LED set of navigation lights is on the left side. Each light has its own pressure pad for activating just that light. There is also a constant on rocker switch and a system-disable rotary switch to prevent accidental activation. The pressure pad for the red lights works normally. The pressure pad for the flashlight did not work for us but the on/off switch does work correctly.
While our police trade-in rifles are normally mechanically solid, they often show a lot of cosmetic wear from the day to day use on patrol. Not so with this one. There are certainly some handling and storage marks but the overall finish is Very Good. It also does not show signs of being fired frequently and, again, that’s normal for Law Enforcement trades.
