The Winchester Model 37 \"Steelbilt\" is a classic and highly regarded single-shot, break-action shotgun that was a staple in many American households for decades. Its name, \"Steelbilt,\" proudly proclaimed its robust construction, signifying its durability and reliability. The Winchester Model 37 was introduced in 1936. It was designed to be an affordable, yet strong and dependable, single-shot shotgun for the working man, farmer, and young shooter. This was during the Great Depression, so value and durability were key. Instead of being made from castings or forgings, the Model 37‚s frame (receiver) was largely constructed from heavy-duty steel stampings. This innovative manufacturing technique, based on patents by Winchester designers William Roemer and Edwin Pugsley, significantly reduced production costs while still providing ample strength. This is where the \"Steelbilt\" designation comes from, often prominently stamped on the barrel.
