This was actually the first commercial bolt action sporting rifle made for modern smokeless cartridges (aside from the limited production and awkward Remington M-1899 Lee and Winchester .236 Navy cal. sporters). These were made from 1920-1928 in calibers .250-3000 and .300 Savage. This example is actually the M0del 1920-26 as it has the 24" barrel (earlier versions in .250 had 22" barrels) and a Lyman bolt mounted peep sight with no provision for rear barrel sight. These were introduced in 1926. Unaltered receiver with no extra scope mounting holes like most seem to have. Goodreceiver and barrel blue that shows only light age. Only some blue wear to the forward portion of the floor plate. Exc. markings, fine stock and checkering with correct sling-eye swivel studs and normal light handling with a couple of small dings behind the bolt on the right side. Savage marked steel butt plate has what looks like a kind "punch-dot" stipling that may or not be factory. Tight action and exc. bore. A rare vatiation or an already scarce model.
