1830s-40s Adapted for a SOCKET BAYONET
Here we present an antique Nepalese Marked British Percussion Baker Style Rifle, made in the 1830s-40s. This rifle has attributes of both earlier and later English infantry rifles, popularly known as Baker rifles, and appears to have been an 1830-1840 era Baker Style rifle.
The Baker rifle was first produced in 1800 by Ezekiel Baker, a master gunsmith from Whitechapel. The Baker rifle, officially known as the Pattern 1800 Infantry Rifle, was a flintlock rifle used by the rifle regiments of the British Army during the Napoleonic Wars. It was the first British-made rifle that the British armed forces issued as a standard weapon for all line companies in a regiment. The Pattern 1776 Infantry rifle had been issued on a limited basis of 10 per regiment to units serving in the American War of Independence. The British Army was still issuing the infantry rifle in the 1830s.
The overall condition is near fine. The stock is in good condition and remains solid with a few slivers missing on the top of the forend on the left side. Original dark patina. Dimmed bore. Strong action. (DOES NOT INCLUDE A BAYONET.)
