Description:
Very nice condition Remington Model 1889 12 gauge hammer double barrel shotgun. Considered one of the finest shotguns of the period, the Remington Model 1889 proved popular through the 1890s. All serial numbers  / assembly numbers match. Offered from plain to fancy grades, this example with serial number 88765 sports a checkered pistol grip stock and forend, case colored action and steel barrels. The forend also has a fancy inletted steel release lever for quick removal of the forend and barrels for cleaning, storing or traveling. Frequently, these pre-20th century shotguns are found in very hard used and often abused condition. This outstanding example still retains fine vivid case colors on the side plates, frame, lever lock, and hammers.  Finding any original case color is unusual and desirable. The 30" barrels retain 60-65% original blue with remainder a nice brown / gray patina. The top of the barrels in front of the breech are marked “REMINGTON ARMS CO. ILION, NY USA” and each side lock plate are also marked “REMINGTON ARMS CO.” The stock and forend show fine checkering with the forend displaying a factory inletted forend cap. The wood is solid and in generally excellent condition. The butt stock is fitted with the correct factory hard rubber checkered butt plate with the attractive Remington logo embossed in the upper center. The action is extremely tight with no play between the barrels and receiver. Both hammers function perfectly with their corresponding triggers. Amazingly, both bores are in great condition with no pitting or corrosion, which is unusual for any shotgun from this period. These Remington made double guns are quite scarce now and are rarely found in this kind of condition. I offer a layaway plan and will consider trades. Please feel free to ask questions.
