Description:
Remington Model 1866 Rolling Block .50-70 – English Straight Grip, 28” Barrel

Offered for sale is a classic Remington Model 1866 Rolling Block rifle chambered in .50-70 Government, featuring a 28-inch barrel and English-style straight grip stock with a crescent steel buttplate. This example represents one of Remington’s foundational single-shot designs, which helped define American post-war military and frontier rifles in the latter half of the 19th century.

The rifle is in good condition, retaining its original configuration with honest wear throughout. The metal has aged to a smooth gray-brown patina with areas of light pitting, and the wood shows typical field use, with no structural issues. The action is fully functional with a strong hammer and tight breech block lockup.

This is not a project gun, but a genuine survivor—complete and solid, ideal for historical shooters, collectors of American martial arms, or black powder cartridge enthusiasts. The .50-70 chambering is well-known for its historical significance, having been the U.S. Army’s official centerfire cartridge during the Indian Wars before being replaced by the .45-70.

An accessible and mechanically sound piece of history—ready for display, shooting, or collecting.
